ROAD Assistance Student Residency Biennial Programme Joanne Brownsword

15th March- 26th April 2021

As a third-year design student, I have tried to be more environmentally conscious during the Anthropocene. Specialising in using nature as my main subject, then incorporating it into my pottery and fabric textiles pieces.
My interests in environmental protection are deep-rooted, and the dangers are accelerating at an unprecedented rate. I have been using what knowledge I have on sustainability by working with a sense of responsibility to achieve my design work.
My current practice is to inform others on materials and how they negatively affect the planet. Consequently, I wanted to make art that will be long lasting and useful within the home—exploring techniques such as ceramic coiling, ceramic inlay, screen printing, embroidery and slip painting.
