Ben Simpson has been selected as artists in residence to coincide with ROAD Studio’s Biennial programme is a Licensed Drone Operator his clients our Liverpool football club he has also worked on movies filmed in Liverpool and was Digital innovation Officer at FACT 2017 -2019.

“I left his IT job to be the main carer for my father who is dying of asbestos cancer, after his death I thought I saw a ghost and had this sense of feeling disconnected as though the reality was very questionable. I’ve always had a passion for documentation having travelled extensively exploring some of the key points in modern history such as visiting the Berlin Wall before it was finally taken down and numerous trips to Afghanistan which inspired some of my degree work at the University of Westminster. During this unprecedented time is important to me to capture the essence of the pandemic through the surrounding scenery of Liverpool.”

Maybe this was simply a way for me to express myself having become single from a long-term relationship just before the start of the first lockdown the sense of isolation was amplified upon being alone. I utilise my photography as an effort to produce work that conveyed the struggles and new lifestyle that has been forced upon us, this became a driving force for me to capture the historic times and gave me a sense of purpose within my role as an artist from the city.
