Episode 5: Sojourn(al) – 29th September – 1st October
‘Artists Eimear Kavanagh and are about to embark on a month long residency exchange between Road Studios, Liverpool and Backwater Artists Group, Cork. Sharing an interest in the environment, urban and rural, and how it reflects and impacts on all that dwells within it, they see the month long residency as visual fact finding mission which will inform their work and culminate in a vibrant pop up show at Road Studios.
Celebrating 2016’s Liverpool Biennial, Road Studios has curated a programme of six “episodes,” welcoming a diversity of artists currently practicing in Liverpool. In Episode 5: Sojourn(al), Eimear and Éilis take their studio exchange as the beginning of a storyline by artists at both studios. The transitory nature of the exchange will be reflected in the exhibition, Sojourn(al) (29th September – 1st October, Opening night Thursday 29th September 6-9pm)’
I will be creating the entire contents of this show within my one month stay in Cork; and not only that but carrying my new body of work through Ryanair hand luggage – passing all the size/weight restrictions! Using recycled materials where possible, I will be proving how some things can be done on a tight budget, without impeding the quality of the artworks. This quite demands some creative thinking – in other words – one mighty challenge. The pressure is on!
I would love you to join me if you are able, if not just to view the artworks, but also to say hello to myself and our guest artist in residence from Ireland. Celebrate and enjoy the wonderful surroundings at Road Studios. Some amazing creative spaces like this have a short life span in Liverpool, lets enjoy them whilst they’re around.
Please feel free to forward to your friends and art lovers – the more the merrier.
